Tanzanite.com is proud to strictly deal with the finest color and quality of Tanzanite. Although different shades exist, High quality is based on the intensity of the color. The deeper and richer the color combination , the more valuable the gemstone.

There are many different ways to evaluate the quality of a Tanzanite. Most Gemologists and Appraisers have a tough time grading Tanzanite because it has no definititive grading system. We like to follow the following procedure in buying our Tanzanites from the mines:

Only buy the deeper colors. Not necessarily a Blue or Violet color but just a deeper color combination. This means the stone could have a stronger hue of Blue over Violet or vice versa and still be considered very fine quality. So demand a deep rich stone. Some consumers have a preference of one stronger hue over the other and request it.

Once you know the color you need, you then want to make sure it has a nice clarity. You can use a jewelers loop or see with the naked eye if there are visible inclusions, chips, nicks or other blemishes in the stone.

Cutting in Tanzanite is very similar to all other gemstones. It comes in various shapes and are all considered fine. No one shape has a higher value than the other. The carat weight does however dictate value. As the carat weight increases, so too does the value of the gemstone.
